Saddlecloth

(Felt, leather, dyed horsehair, tin foil, oil paint)

One side of the saddlecloth, which originally lay on a saddle, is adorned with the leather application of an animal combat scene: a tiger slays an elk. The animal figures were partially painted and covered with tin. The saddlecloth is lined with a leather band and decorated at the edges with six painted fish tags. Bundles of red-dyed horse hair hang down from the fins of the fish.

Tail Trim

(Leather, dyed horsehair, dyed coat, color)

Even the horse’s tail was decorated. It stuck in a leather tube made of ribbons of differently colored leather with an applied pattern. The lower end is a ring of blue-dyed fur and a bunch of red-colored horse hair, looking out from the bottom of the tube.

Bridle

(Iron, wood, leather, gold leaf, oil paint)

Although the horse wore a mask, a bridle is associated with horse # 2. The straps are made of colorful leather, the two-parted iron horse-bit is equipped with characteristic ring ends. In these ends wooden Psalien with palmette-shaped endings were inserted, which were once gilded. The entire bridle is adorned with leather-made, small, gilded ram’s heads.

Chest and Tail Straps

(Leather, gold leaf, color)

To protect the saddle from slipping, it is fixed with different straps. The horse’s chest belt has a prominent ornament in the form of a centrally placed griffin figure with spread wings, which is made of leather and gilded. In addition to this belt more small ram heads are mounted with gilding, like they can also be found on the bridle.

The tail strap runs along the croup of the horse. It is decorated with leather applications.

Mane Decoration

(Felt, leather, dyed horsehair, gold leaf, tin foil, oil paint)

The mane of the horse graced a crest of red dyed horsehair. This crest consists of two felt pads, which were sewn laterally into the mane of the horse and are covered with thin leather. The leather is painted and has applications in the form of birds with large crests. They were decorated with thin gold and tin foil.

Mask

(Felt, leather, dyed horsehair, gold leaf, tin foil, oil paint)

The mask consists of a felt pad on which several leather layers were glued and sewn. It encloses the entire head of the horse and shows the fight between a griffin, whose head and wings rise above the head of the horse and a tiger, which lies on the horses forehead and bites the griffin into its breast.
